Pat Testing Process

What Is Portable Appliance Testing ?

Under the Electricity at Work (EAW) Regulations 1989 all businesses are required to "Ensure that work equipment is maintained in an efficient state, in an efficient working order and in good repair". To ensure this happens, Portable Appliance Testing (also referred to as the 'Inspection and Testing of In-Service Electrical equipment') was introduced.'

Portable Appliance Testing (a PAT Test) is the best way to ensure that your organisations obligations have been met under the Health and Safety at Work Act so far as electrical safety is concerned and more importantly that your staffs, visitors, patients, buildings and possessions are safe.

TerrierByteIT have a long standing history of offering high quality service to our customers. We have become fully trained in PAT testing so now Our team of qualified engineers will carry out the testing at a time and a place to suit your needs at an affordable price

Testing Details

By delivering a programme of Portable Appliance Testing, we will manage your health and safety requirements in line with the recommended guidelines for frequency of testing. Where applicable we will:

  • Visually inspect every appliance, lead and plug for damage & correct use and suitability for its environment
  • Open every plug, check all fuses and replace if required
  • Tighten every terminal and cable clamp
  • Test earth resistance, insulation resistance, polarity & function load
  • Label every item with a unique code in conjunction with the asset register

We shall produce a written asset/equipment register detailing each item's:

  1. Unique ID Number,
  2. Make,
  3. Model,
  4. Serial Number,
  5. Location,
  6. Date Tested,
  7. Next Recommended Retest Date,
  8. Condition
  9. (Pass/Fail), Record
  10. Make Safe & Report All Failed Items To The Duty Holder

On completion of our portable appliance tests we will produce a PAT Certificate which will list each item that has been tested, its location and the result of each test. During the electrical testing process each item will be given a pass or fail sticker with an ID number for that item.

Testing Reports

A PDF version of your PAT Certificate will be available to download at your leisure from the customer area of our website following the completion of testing. A paper copy of the certificate can be posted to you if you prefer.

To make the testing process as smooth as possible for you, we are happy to work to your schedule and carry out PAT Testing in or out of office hours including at weekends.
